Salvation

Jesus Saves!

Do you believe that? Have you told anyone bout this great gift? This is a great opportunity to learn how to witness to someone. How to tell someone what they need to know to be saved. Why am I having you do this?

Trey Goudy recently spoke on being persuasive. It’s a fantastic speech and well worth your time. Skip ahead to 7:52 and listen to the rest of the video. The biggest thing he highlighted in this video is that you need to figure out what you believe, and more importantly you have to figure out why you believe it. I have stressed this over and over since the very beginning. The only way you are going to be able to persuade anyone to understand what you believe is you have to be able to back it up with the facts. Look at what we have covered so far. What do you believe about the afterlife, heaven, hell, the Bible, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Trinity, predestination, the church, your family, friends, etc… All of this is building up to the moments when you serve your Lord and Savior. It’s a foundation to know what you believe and to back it up.

Through salvation our past has been forgiven, our present is given meaning, and our future is secured. – Rick Warren

What does the Bible say about it?

Ephesians 2:8-9

[8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Titus 3:5

[5] he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Acts 16:31

[31] And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

John 5:24

[24] Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (ESV)

What do people smarter than me believe?

Charles H. Spurgeon

“There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labour in his service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them. . . . Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons, make but slow advances in the divine life? Because they neglect their closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God’s Word. They love the wheat, but they do not grind it; they would have the corn, but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it; the fruit hangs upon the tree, but they will not pluck it; the water flows at their feet, but they will not stoop to drink it. From such folly deliver us, O Lord. . . .”

C.S. Lewis

A world of nice people, content in their own niceness, looking no further, turned away from God, would be just as desperately in need of salvation as a miserable world-and might be even more difficult to save.

A.W Tozer

“Jesus Christ came not to condemn you but to save you, knowing your name, knowing all about you, knowing your weight right now, knowing your age, knowing what you do, knowing where you live, knowing what you ate for supper and what you will eat for breakfast, where you will sleep tonight, how much your clothing cost, who your parents were. He knows you individually as though there were not another person in the entire world. He died for you as certainly as if you had been the only lost one. He knows the worst about you and is the One who loves you the most.
If you are out of the fold and away from God, put your name in the words of John 3:16 and say, “Lord, it is I. I’m the cause and reason why Thou didst on earth come to die.” That kind of positive, personal faith and a personal Redeemer is what saves you. If you will just rush in there, you do not have to know all the theology and all the right words. You can say, “I am the one He came to die for.” Write it down in your heart and say, “Jesus, this is me—Thee and me,” as though there were no others. Have that kind of personalized belief in a personal Lord and Savior.”

William Faulkner

“People to whom sin is just a matter of words, to them salvation is just words too.”

A.W. Tozer

“If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus’ fist, but by His nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.”

Charles H. Spurgeon

“Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish’? Surely that precious word, ‘Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life freely’ and that solemn promise, ‘Him that cometh unto Me, I will in no wise cast out,’ are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Saviour ought to be believed. He is truth itself. Why will you ask proof of the veracity of One who cannot lie?”

Romans Road To Salvation

Who needs Salvation? Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned.

Romans 3:10-12

[10] as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; [11]  no one understands; no one seeks for God. [12]  All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

What’s the Motive?

Romans 3:23-24

[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

What are the Consequences of Sin? The price (or consequence) of sin is death.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

James 1:15

Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

Did Jesus Christ die for our sins? He paid the price for our death.

Romans 5:8-10

[8] but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.[9] Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.[10] For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.2 Peter 2:4-10[4] For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; [5] if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; [6] if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; [7] and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked [8] (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); [9] then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, [10] and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, (ESV)Rom. 3:23-25[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, [25] whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9-10

[9] because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.[11] For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” [12] For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. [13] For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.

Romans 5:1-5

1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we1 have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also cobtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice  in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

James 1:2-4

[2] Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, [3] for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. [4] And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (ESV)Rom 8:1-2[1] There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life ihas set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.Romans 8:38-39[38] For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, [39] nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.Romans 10:13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Additional Q&A

Question in Bold

Answer

What do you believe?

The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. He came to earth and became one of us as a human being. To feel what we feel, to experience what we experience. He came down from perfection into the filth of this sinful world to save us. God gave His only son for all of us, and He would have done it for just me. I can not get to heaven on my own merit. There is not a single good thing that I can do for God that would make me righteous in His own eyes, except believe the Jesus Christ is Lord, and give every part of myself too Him. Trust in Him in EVERYTHING! When things don’t go my way, I will trust in Him, when I stumble and fall (fail) I can call on Him, and ask for His forgiveness, and He will forgive me.

Some of you may have heard of the “Romans Road to Salvation.” It’s considered a good roadmap that Paul walks through to salvation. Romans is of course not the only book, so branch out.

Here are some questions to wrestle through:
How does one get to heaven?
Why do I believe that?
What are the Consequences of Sin?
Did Jesus Christ die for our sins?
Why did the God of the universe do that? He became a man to die for our sins? That doesn’t sound like a conquering king.
How do we receive salvation and eternal life?
How does Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God?
What does it mean to have a relationship with Jesus?
Can I loose my salvation?

Love you guys!
